01. Prolific Genius

1881-1973

Music Selection:  De Falla: Three-Cornered Hat - Danza del Molinero

Picasso Symphony is a multimedia symphonic experience celebrating the life, works and times of the most prolific artist of all time, Pablo Picasso. On the 51st anniversary of his passing, this experience will explore Picasso, the artistic genius who revolutionized art and the way we view the painted canvas. Picasso was an innovator in every art form that he worked in, from painting, to ceramic, to printmaking. He frequently pushed the boundaries of the possible, and made the medium his own.

The breadth, depth and magnitude of Picasso’s 75 years of producing art is difficult to comprehend: over 60,000 artworks - paintings, drawings, designs, theater sets, costume designs, prints, engravings, book illustrations, sculptures and ceramics - a hand in every major art movement of the twentieth century. Experiencing Picasso Symphony is to take a journey through the multiple media, themes and subjects that Picasso explored and experimented with. Besides seeing images of the final artworks and masterpieces, Picasso Live shares process and context - the studies, the inspirations, the studios spaces where the artworks were created, the preparative drawings and sketches that explored ideas, subjects and compositions leading up to the final artworks.

This journey is framed around a chronological structure, taking you through each main artistic style period of Picasso’s life, some styles that he would revisit throughout his career.
